Would you like to improve your Google search results ranking?
|
Who wouldn’t? If Google doesn’t rank you in the top 10, i.e. the first page, then you might as well not exist. Most people using a search engine don’t bother to go to the second, third and subsequent pages in the search results. In order to be relevant, you must get yourself on the first page as a starting point, then up the ladder to the top of the first page if at all possible.

How does Google rank search results?
|
It’s all based on something called PageRank. Now there are countless white papers and information out there on Google PageRank so I won’t go into too much detail here. What I will say is this: Google PageRank is an integer number between 1 and 10. It is a measure of your website’s popularity. The more popular, the higher your Google PageRank. A Google PageRank of 10 and you are one happy camper. A Google PageRank of 1 or 2 and there is room for improvement. If you use the Google browser bar there is an icon for PageRank. If you don’t see it go into the options section. Here you’ll see a way to display Google services like News, Groups, Images, etc. You should also see a way to display PageRank. After you do this simply navigate to a site like ebay.com or amazon.com and mouse over the Google PageRank icon in the browser bar. It will show you a number like “5/10” indicating the current website’s Google PageRank is 5 out of a possible 10.

Not An Exact Science
|
Given the fact that the Google PageRank number is a proprietary algorithm, no one knows for sure what goes into making it. People have speculated over the years. I’ve read some papers that I think have come pretty close to formulating exactly how this number is calculated. Given the proprietary nature of PageRank I won’t be able make any guarantees. For example I cannot say “I can increase your Google PageRank from X to Y”. If anyone tells you something like this get away from them, as they are clearly lying to you. What I can do is apply some of the things I have learned as the developer and webmaster for MySpaceCodeZone.net to your site. Also, know that optimizing your website to place better in search results is a never ending process that could take weeks or months to come to fruition. The bottom line is there are no guarantees and it could take time.

Why Am I Qualified to Help You?
|
I’ve been in the IT business for the last 20 years, having spent 16 or so of those years as a consultant. I live in the Hartford, CT job market and have had the opportunity to work in various industries like legal, manufacturing, financial and most recently insurance. I’ve seen and done everything from mainframe to client/server and now to internet application development. I consider myself a top talent developer who has acquired a lot of knowledge and expertise in IT over a long career. Admittedly though, before starting MySpaceCodeZone.net I knew nothing about search engine optimization or website marketing. Although this is an IT-related field it was still foreign to me as an application developer. Given that I am not a large corporation with an IT department and a few million bucks in the bank but rather a regular guy with a full-time job, when I started the website there was no one I could turn to for expertise. If anyone was going to get the job done it was going to be me. Yes I could have hired an outside company to help me but I did not want to do this. I like a challenge and I like to learn new things so I became determined to figure this new area out on my own. Well, I have figured out a few things so far that I’d like to share with you. After a few years in operation, MySpaceCodeZone.net is getting almost 10,000 page views per month (at the time of this writing which is August 6 2009). Now I realize to some, this is not a lot of page views. Especially considering that sites like Amazon, Yahoo and Google probably get millions per month, but I’m pleased that I was able to get to this point as 1 person running a website while working a full-time job. I’m very pleased about this but still want to do better. Another good thing is that there are several search terms for which MySpaceCodeZone.net is listed as the first search result! Others search terms list me in the top 5. For other search terms I’m not where I want to be; not on the first page or the second page. This tells me I still have work to do.

See For Yourself
|
Here are some search terms where MySpaceCodeZone.net is coming up in the top 5. I’m also including screen shots because website rankings can change. Google updates its PageRank figures every 3 months or so. There’s no guarantee that anyone’s pages will have the same ranking from one period to another.
Figure 1 - search phrase was back and forth slideshow for myspace
Figure 2 - search phrase was text effects for myspace
Figure 3 - search phrase was alternate slideshow for myspace
Figure 4 - search phrase was pictures moving back and forth on myspace
You can do the searches yourself but remember, there’s no guarantee that a site’s pages will have the same ranking from one period to another. These results were obtained on August 4, 2009. Also, there is no trickery involved here. I don’t have any sneaky tactics to get ranked better (like
this). These pages that are ranking well are the most popular on my site. As you can plainly see, through good SEO (search engine optimization) I’ve been able to be the first search result on Google in some cases! This is no small accomplishment.

My Service
|
The first step would be to analyze your site. I’ll do this not only by looking at it in the browser like everyone else does, but I would also need to look at the code that is part of each page. You would have to zip up the site files and email them to me or allow me to download them somehow from your site.
Next I’ll produce a report outlining all the things I think you could do to improve your Google PageRank. We would then have a phone conversation about my findings where you would ask questions and learn what needs to be done to make improvements.
The last step would be to make the changes I propose to your site’s pages. You could have your webmaster do this for you if you have someone on staff, hire someone well versed in your site’s language to implement the changes or have me do it. Given the rates I’m charging (see below), I don’t want to force a client to have me do the work when it could be done less expensively by a competent webmaster. The expertise that I have would be needed to determine what needs to be done, not necessarily implement those changes. For the first 2 choices above, the webmaster would of course be able to call/email me with questions. We would work together to get your site updated.

My Rates
|
Keep in mind that improving your Google search ranking is a very powerful thing. If you have your site monetized either with Google Adsense or by selling products, this could lead to a big increase in traffic and eventually a big increase in sales. With this in mind, my rate is $200.00/hr in half hour increments. Half hour increments means if the work takes from 1 minute to 30 minutes you will be charged $100. The work will be done remotely. This means there are no hidden fees for traveling/food/lodging.
|
How Would It Work If You Wanted To Hire Me?
|
If you want to give this a try the first step will be for me to analyze your website. It’s difficult to say how long this will take because it is dependant on the size/number of pages in your website. A “small” website consisting of 10-20 pages might take 2-3 hours. A larger website would of course take longer. The fee for this initial analysis is not refundable. I would of course provide you with a written email estimate before any work is done.
