Hey everyone I'm Rob. I started creating this site in December 2006 after reading
an article in USA Today. The article was about a couple of young people who had
a site that offered MySpace customizations. Over time their site had become wildly
popular and I thought "Hey, I can do that too!". So I got excited, bought a huge
book on the technology I used to make this site and started reading like there was
no tomorrow. After a month or so I sat down at the computer and started putting
things together. What hepled me was the fact that I've been an IT professional for
18+ years so I have a lot of knowledge about creating web sites, knowledge about
technology and experience with making applications easy to use from a user perspective.
I had never gotten around to trying anything for myself just because I couldn't
think of a good idea for a business.
So I'm just one guy running this site. I thought of putting the word "we" or "team"
at the end of emails and such to give people the idea that there was a large number
of people behind this site, but then I said why lie to people? What's wrong with
being one guy trying to make this work? So here it is! It's just me. I still work full time, sometimes more than
40 hours per week so if I take a few days to get back to you I hope you'll understand
why. I am committed to doing what
it takes to making this site work and being responsive to questions and such. Customer service
is #1 with me. Without you guys here there would be nothing for me to do. You're
#1.
Thanks so much for stopping by. If you have any comments, suggestions or heckles,
don't hesitate to drop me a line. Just click on Make a Comment in the top navigation bar and you can send me a message.

About the technology

This site is written in Visual Studio .NET 2005, or .NET 2.0 for short. I chose
visual basic rather than C# because I use VB most frequently in my job. The back end is SQL Server 2005. I'm really into the whole Web 2.0 movement so I wanted to
make this site not only interactive by adding the discussion component but also
super responsive by using Ajax throughout. I'm happy to say I was able to achieve
not having one single page post back. Of course, if you're moving from one page
to another it has to post, but when you click around on one page there are no postbacks.
This should really sit well with users. No screen flash, no long wait for the screen
to be repainted. I'm really excited that I was able to use as much Ajax as I was,
and I really hope people like it too.
